My (Heck) Yes List

I read somewhere once that you shouldn’t say yes to something unless it’s a “H*ll, yes.” Those words indicate passion. Conviction. A feeling deep in my gut that, yep, this thing is super important to me. My daughter would call it her spidey-sense.

Making decisions through this lens has allowed me to save my time, energy and mental load to focus on the things in my career that I’m really passionate about. The things that define my creative approach and leadership style. Here are a few of them.

  1. Turn a good story into a great one by telling it in a different way. When in doubt, start with data and user-centered design.

  2. Writing doesn’t need to be clever to be impactful.

  3. No matter what problem comes up, we’ll figure it out together. Collaboration makes us stronger.

  4. Giving my team the freedom to lead with their own strengths lets them take initiative and experiment, making us more innovative when it counts.

  5. Mentoring matters—whether it’s over a cup of coffee (my favorite) or in a conference room. And sometimes that just means being ready to listen.

  6. Small details can make the most impact. By being intentional and precise in our language choices, we have the power to make complex ideas accessible and inclusive to every reader.

  7. When we lead with empathy and authenticity, both in writing and our relationships, we’re freed up to tell (and live) our greatest stories.
